We have over recent years tackled several local safety challenges such as implementing comprehensive driver selection and training in Angola. This effort has produced an accident-free driving record exceeding 1.5 million kilometers (930,000 miles) in a part of the world where vehicle safety statistics are typically 25 times worse than in industrialized countries.
Some additional examples include:
- The Esso Mobil Road smart program in Hong Kong targets drivers of taxis and buses as well as private cars and motorcycles.
- Our Thailand affiliate participates in a road-safety training program for kindergarten students that teaches the importance of obeying traffic signs and riding bicycles safely.
- To underscore the importance of seat belt use, our affiliate in South and Central America and the Caribbean created a seat belt program for truck drivers that also involves spouses and children.
- In Saudi Arabia, our affiliate works with local police in a program that teaches driver safety to high school students.
