 | When we all work together to improve safety, everybody works safe. API has a new way for service station owners to make sure their contractors have been trained to industry safety standards. Contractors who participate may gain a competitive edge. It’s called API WorkSafe™. The first program offered by API WorkSafe is a service station contractor safety qualification program that identifies contractor personnel who have passed a standardized examination covering the latest service station industry safety practices. Click here to access the API WorkSafe Website now! The great majority of contractors in the service station industry work for more than one customer, but each customer may have different safety requirements. Service providers often find it cumbersome and expensive to track such variations and then execute the correct procedures on site. A voluntary program, API WorkSafe was developed to address industry concerns that such variations can actually hinder their goal of an accident-free work environment. The secure online program includes the new API Recommended Practice 1646, 14 training modules, and a qualification exam. Applicants who pass the exam will receive a Safety Key wallet card with a unique personal identification code. Station owners can then verify the code online here or by telephone at 202-371-1043. API WorkSafe is extremely affordable as well. Contractors and employees can select from three different items available on the site: API RP 1646 (in PDF), an online Training Module, or an online Qualification Exam. For first-time users, the cost for any single item is $10. If two items are purchased at the same time, the total cost is $15. And if all three items are purchased at the same time, the total price is $20. Renewing this annual qualification is affordable as well. Renewal of any one item is $7, any two items are $10 total, and all three are $15.
