Washington Representative - Federal Relations

 
 

Qualifications:

  • College degree with 10-plus years of public policy or legislative advocacy experience.
  • Requires aptitude for and an interest in lobbying Congress and the Executive Branch.
  • Must be skilled at gathering information, making recommendations to respond to legislative and regulatory initiatives and reporting on assigned issues.
  • Working knowledge of industry federal policy issues particularly relating to international oil and gas policy and energy markets.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
  • Must have the ability to work effectively, with flexibility and personal diplomacy, in a team environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Represent the petroleum industry before the Congress and Executive Branch, and promote the interests of the industry on matters relating to international oil and gas policy and energy markets.
  • Work with API staff and representatives from API member companies to coordinate and implement strategy on priority federal policy issues.
  • Staff appropriate federal relations subcommittees to develop effective strategies to advance the interests of the petroleum industry. 
  • Work effectively within API departments and issue management teams to provide federal policy expertise in developing and pursuing advocacy objectives.
  • Work with all relevant outside groups to promote support for API initiatives and policies.
  • Provide support to the Vice President of Government Affairs and other API staff members on assigned issues.
